To help shape and inform the development of effective alcohol policy across the country, FARE makes submissions to a range of Commonwealth, State and Territory government inquiries.

The ACT Government has proposed legislative measures to address the delivery of alcohol in a Discussion Paper released for public consultation in August 2023. However, there were also some significant gaps in the proposals that can allow the risk of harms from online sales and delivery of alcohol to continue to increase.
The NSW Government is in its second stage of reviewing the alcohol delivery reforms which started in July 2021. The reforms aimed to better regulate online sales and delivery of alcohol.
The ACT Government developed the ACT Preventive Action Plan 2023-25 with the aim of preventing chronic diseases by supporting people to choose lifestyle behaviours that reduce their risk of developing preventable diseases. FARE lodged a submission to the plan to ensure that the prevention of alcohol harms exacerbating in the ACT community would be included in the plan.
Given the seriousness of the devastation of alcohol harm, the ACT Government is to be commended for its commitment to tackling this problem in the ACT.
On 11 October 2018 the Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation for Australia and New Zealand decided to mandate the application of pregnancy warning labels on all packaged alcohol products.
FARE made its submission to Australian Government’s Research Australia in relation to the MRFF.
A joint submission by the FARE and the CAPR at La Trobe University made to the Inquiry into the efficiency, effectiveness and coherency of Australian Government funding for research.
As a health promotion charity registered with the ACNC, FARE responded to the Commonwealth Government’s invitation to comment on its review of of the ACNC Act 2012 and the ACNC (Consequential and Transitional) Act 2012.
In its submission to the NT’s Alcohol Review Implementation Team, FARE stated that the Draft Guidelines for community impact assessment provide a good foundation for the assessment of the impact of liquor licence applications in the Northern Territory.
The submission outlines the health and economic harms associated with the current approach to alcohol taxation, and shows the wide-ranging support for reform and effective measures to instigate cost-saving preventive measures.
In this submission NAAPA welcomed the opportunity to provide comment on the Legislative Council’s Inquiry into Alcohol Beverages Advertising Prohibition Bill 2015.
