Leave a legacy for healthier and safer communities

Did you know that you can leave a gift to FARE in your Will, to support our work to build an Australia that is free from alcohol harms?

After providing for the people closest to you, a gift in your Will to FARE can help create lasting change for generations to come.

Your legacy will live through the vital work we do to transform alcohol policies, raise the voices of people with lived experiences and drive reform to protect Australians from alcohol harm.

Together, we can create change for a healthier and safer Australia.

Many people choose to use their Will as an opportunity to contribute to causes they are passionate about.

Why leave a gift to FARE?

FARE has a vision for an Australia free from alcohol harm – where families are safe, healthy and well, and where communities have a say in the role that alcohol plays in their lives.

But sadly right now:

  • every 90 minutes an Australian dies from alcohol-caused disease or illness
  • every three-and-a-half minutes someone is hospitalised because of alcohol, and
  • one in 10 Australians who drink alcohol meet the criteria for an alcohol use disorder

Together, we have an opportunity to turn this around.

Your support will enable FARE to create lasting change. We do this by working alongside communities and people with lived experience, commissioning new research, advocating for stronger policies, holding alcohol companies accountable, and delivering life changing health campaigns.

FAQ's

What is a gift in a Will?

A gift in your Will, sometimes called a bequest or legacy, is a gift made to a person or organisation through your estate.

Leaving a gift to FARE is a meaningful way to carry your values forward and help create healthier and safer communities for future generations.

There are several ways you may be able to leave a gift:

  • A residual gift: all or a percentage of what remains of your estate after other gifts, expenses and responsibilities have been taken care of.
  • A percentage of your estate: a nominated percentage of your whole estate or its residue.
  • A specific amount: a nominated sum of money.
  • A specific asset: property, shares or another nominated asset.

Your solicitor or qualified legal adviser can help you decide which option best reflects your wishes and circumstances.

No gift is too small to make a meaningful contribution to FARE’s work.

Whether you leave a percentage of your estate, a specific amount or another type of gift, your generosity can help build healthier and safer communities for generations to come.

No. You are not required to tell us that you have included FARE in your Will.

However, we would value the opportunity to thank you personally, learn what inspired your decision and keep you informed about the work your future gift could support.

Any information you share will be treated respectfully and confidentially.

Already have a Will?

If you already have a Will, your solicitor may be able to help you update it or prepare a codicil—a separate legal document that makes a change to your existing Will.

We recommend speaking with your solicitor or qualified legal adviser before making any changes. You may also wish to discuss your plans with your family, executor or other people close to you.

If you already have a solicitor drafted will and would like to update this to include a gift for FARE, it’s important to use the correct language. This pro forma text can be a useful guide:

“I give to the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education, ABN 91 096 854 385,

  • The residue of my estate (or __% of the residue of my estate) or
  • The whole of my estate (or __% of my estate)
  • The sum of $___
  • Asset or assets

for which the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorised officer shall be an absolute discharge.”
