Polling Snapshot: Views of people in NSW on proposed measures to reduce family and domestic violence

New polling reveals almost 2 in 3 people in NSW support proposed changes to alcohol laws that would reduce family and domestic violence.

The Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) commissioned Pure Profile to conduct polling to understand
community attitudes toward alcohol law reforms aimed at reducing family and domestic violence linked to the online sale and rapid delivery of alcohol.

The polling was conducted online between 21 October and 3 November 2025. The sample comprised 1,225 people aged 18 years and over, residing in metropolitan and regional NSW. The sample is representative for age, gender and location.

Key findings:

  • Over eighty per cent of people in NSW believe that the government should prioritise the reduction of alcohol harms over alcohol industry profits when making changes to alcohol laws.
  • Over two-thirds of people in NSW agree that alcohol delivery into homes should be limited to between 10am and 10pm to reduce family and domestic violence.
  • Over two-thirds of people in NSW support a two-hour safety pause between ordering alcohol and having it delivered to the home to prevent family and domestic violence.

Recent research papers

FARE continues to fund and undertake research that contributes to the knowledge-base about alcohol harms and strategies to reduce them.

This research is used to inform our approach to evidence-based alcohol policy development, ensuring that the solutions we are advocating for are informed by research. FARE’s research is also often quoted by governments, other not-for-profit organisations and researchers in public discussions about alcohol, demonstrating that FARE is seen as a leading source of information.
