I'm Good

When you start saying “I’m Good” to alcohol more often, you’ll notice positive changes in your life – big and small.

I’m Good is a digital campaign that offers tips, strategies and evidence-based information to the 1 in 3 Canberrans who want to cut back or cut out alcohol.

The campaign, which is developed by the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) and funded by the ACT Government, is designed for Canberrans aged 25-44 who want to drink less.

About the campaign

A recent survey found 1 in 3 (33.4%) Canberrans over 18 are planning to cut back or cut out alcohol in the next 12 months.

  • One in three people (31.4%) said that when they drink alcohol, it disrupts their sleep.
  • One in five (21.7%) said that after drinking alcohol, they feel more worried or anxious the next day.
  • One in 10 Canberrans (11.5 per cent) who want to cut back say they don’t know where to start.

That’s why we’ve developed the I’m Good campaign, which includes local Canberran stories, and practical tips for cutting back or cutting out alcohol.

The campaign showcases real stories from Canberrans who are thriving after saying “I’m Good” and either cutting back or cutting out alcohol

Highlighting community stories

As well as offering tips and strategies, the campaign showcases real stories from Canberrans who are thriving after saying “I’m Good” and either cutting back or cutting out alcohol.

They told us that since reducing their alcohol use, they’ve found new ways to connect, built deeper relationships, are sleeping better, have more energy, and are discovering new hobbies and routines.

For example Meg, 42, cut out alcohol for three months at the start of 2025, and kept going when she saw improvements to her health and sleep.

“Since I’ve stopped drinking alcohol, my life has changed for the better. I have more energy to do things, and there’s been a knock-on effect of making better choices around my health, it is so much easier to do something with even just one person on your side who is experiencing the same things as you,” she said.

Simon, 46, cut back on alcohol in his early 30s to support his early starts as a personal trainer.

“Cutting back on drinking helps with my training, it really does mean I’m able to do more. Alcohol does slow down your recovery time in these situations,” he said.

What are the guidelines for drinking alcohol?

The I’m Good campaign is based on the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Australian Guidelines to Reduce Health Risks from Drinking Alcohol.

The Guidelines advise that:

  • To reduce the risk of harm from alcohol-related disease or injury, healthy men and women should drink no more than 10 standard drinks a week and no more than 4 standard drinks on any one day.
  • The less you drink, the lower your risk of harm from alcohol.

If you currently drink at high levels, it may be dangerous to reduce or quit alcohol without speaking to your doctor first. A doctor can review your individual situation and help advise on the best way forward.

A step on the path towards Healthy Canberra

The I’m Good campaign was commissioned through the ACT Government’s Healthy Canberra Grants Program.

Healthy Canberra Grants funding priorities are informed by the Healthy Canberra: ACT Preventive Health Plan 2020-2025, which sets the foundations for reducing chronic disease and supporting good health across all stages of life.
