Scott’s diary – Week 6

Hey there, Scott here, checking in for the final week of my TOM diary – week 6!

It’s been a pretty quiet week, rainy weather kept me at home and work has been crazy – I worked all day Saturday and put in some long hours during the week too.

Working so intensely has really brought home to me how much more energy I have when I’m not drinking. I’ve just got a bit more of a spring in my step.

Previously, I’d assumed that if I wasn’t getting drunk, and if I could get up and go to work the next day and not have a hangover, then I was fine. But realising that that I don’t have to necessarily get drunk for there to still be a negative impact has made it easier to cut down.

But doing TOM has made me realise that even one drink has an adverse effect on my energy levels, which carries over into everything. And if I get into the habit of drinking every afternoon after work – even if I just have a couple – it IS going to affect me. So the more days I string together without drinking, the better I feel. It really has a cumulative effect.

My target is about six drinks a week. But this week, I only ended up having three. I had a couple less beers than normal on Friday night after work in the pub, and then just one glass of red with Sunday dinner. I think I wanted to make a bit of extra effort in my last TOM diary week!
